Recent  Accomplishments

Suicide Prevention Care Fund made several grants to support the care giving ministries of the He Intends Victory orphanage for HIV/AIDS–afflicted children at Eldoret, Kenya. Because of their position as social outcasts, they are especially susceptible to suicide. Currently 20 boys and girls are being cared for in a loving Christian environment, with all their food, shelter, medical, and schooling needs provided.

SPCF shipped a sea container filled with medical supplies to Centro Cristiano Poder de Dias in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico to benefit families living in extreme need. The shipment had a total fair market value of $181,000.

SPCF has made several grants to Teen Challenge Swaziland, Mbabane, to support suicide prevention efforts through its alcohol and drug rehabilitation program for children and young adults. Virtually all of 100 youth in residence are at high risk and require monitoring for suicidal tendencies.

SPCF provided quarterly grants to support the suicide prevention ministries of Youth With A Mission leader John Bills. During the year he trained and challenged 2,000 individuals (medical workers, ministers, teachers, and youth leaders) in Uganda, Zambia, Australia, and the United States. Most of his time last year was spent in Uganda, where he held many training sessions on ministering to people with AIDS. He also organized a Women of Hope Ministry with over 200 widows who had lost their husbands and other family members to HIV/AIDS. These types of patients are highly at–risk for suicide.

SPCF supported the operation of the Terry Duffy Home, a half–acre compound in Jinja, Uganda, created to shelter and treat HIV-infected women and children. Currently there are 12 residents, most of them widows or orphans who are utterly destitute and shunned by society, and especially susceptible to suicide.

SPCF provided quarterly grants to support the suicide prevention outreach of He Intends Victory of Irvine, CA. This Christian ministry to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS provides ongoing public education, prevention services, individual counseling, and support groups. People with HIV/AIDS are subject to severe depression and thoughts of suicide. In addition to California, services are provided through chapter offices in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia. Last year alone,125 training sessions were held, involving 86,657 individuals; there are 231 ongoing support groups regularly caring for 6,398 patients.

SPCF sent a grant to Grace Rivers Ministry, Paris, TX, to support its anti-bullying efforts through churches, schools and social media. Students being harassed are often deeply depressed and susceptible to suicidal thoughts and actions.
